The Activism of Radical Self-Love

Many of us have been programmed to put our loved ones before ourselves, to feel guilty when we take time for ourselves, and even to associate healthy love for self with narcissism. In this interactive circle, we discuss what it really means to love ourselves, and why — now more than ever — we absolutely must. We’ll provide concrete strategies for facing the shadows, celebrating the light, and reaching new states of wholeness, because only when we change ourselves do we begin to change the world.

All instruments are provided; yours are welcome, too.

Effigy Burn and Release Ceremony

Self-care isn’t just about treating ourselves well, but also about doing the hard work of being present with challenging feelings, thoughts, and behavioral patterns, so that we move past them and align with our greater purpose. Be proud of yourself for making the time to be still and be present with yourself, and prepare to release both baggage and good intentions out into the universe. Take time to write what you’d like to release, as well as your intentions for your life, on our effigy, and watch them be carried up in smoke during the most special burn of the weekend. We’ll also burn some sage and offer some ceremonial cacao to bring you further into your heart space. Barbara Gail will offer her drumming during this communal ritual.

9:30-10:30 pm

Folk & Fire — Penn Johnson and 1GirlFire

Folksinging started as a way to tell a story, an intimate exchange between songwriter and audience. Since its discovery, fire has been used in ceremonial native traditions. Merging these two elements from their ancestors in a sacred way, Penn & 1GirlFire bring a new kind of medicinal performance to spaces across the globe. Returning to the age-old tradition of storytelling, with an accompanying fire dance set to the beat of Penn’s mantras, inspiration, and a meditative mindset, this is music for raising vibrations. Watch a clip!
